Living Room Decor
Living Room Decor - In the olden days, many houses boasted a front parlor used only for formal callers and solemn family rites, and a sitting room where family and friends usually gathered. Not much different from today in most homes where guests filter past an exquisitely furnished living room to a family room where easy comfort beckons and barriers melt away.

  • In the olden days, many houses boasted a front parlor used only for formal callers and solemn family rites, and a sitting room where family and friends usually gathered. Not much different from today in most homes where guests filter past an exquisitely furnished living room to a family room where easy comfort beckons and barriers melt away.

  • Living room decoration expresses a sense of welcome and sets the tone for the rest of your home. In this article I will tell you how to make your living room truly a lived-in-room by bringing in earthy colors. You will see how to give a room a definitive style.

  • Color Scheme

  • The use of color throughout any part of your home is very important. In the living room avoid wall colors that may clash with your furniture. One of most popular color for living room is blue. This color produces a sense of calm, and is often associated with the ocean. Blue color can make a room look larger. Lighter blue is also finicky and will make a room seem more open then darker navies. Green is too lavish. This is the color of nature, and is almost always associated with growth.

  • Earth tones give a room a close grounded feeling, and can promote a sense of intimacy. They are rustic natural colors that seam simple and warm. Soft tans and browns are the colors of family, and will give your living room that feeling of home. Besides, they don’t show dirt. Greens can be matched in with browns, to create a feeling of nature and the outdoors in.

  • Arranging Furniture

  • To encourage social intimacy and relaxation, place the primary furniture-often a sofa- so that it commands a view of the room. Then give other seating a nice view, putting everyone at ease and making the room both attractive and comfortable. If you have a large room, it is better to divide the room in two or three separate seating areas. This provides cozy seating areas where you can entertain small groups easily. Even if you want to entertain larges groups these arrangements help in trying people together.

  • If you have a fire place, you can rearrange your furniture around it. It is always good to arrange furniture in off-square angles. When arranging furniture, also consider traffic in your living area. Does the arrangement of your furniture allow free movement and flow?

  • Carpet and Rugs

  • The carpet in your living room is very important for the over all look of room. The carpet can be the color that you work around when putting togather you living room décor.

  • Add rugs to compliment your room and furniture. If you have no carpet in living room then add some interest with floor rugs instead to leave the floor bare.

  • Walls

  • Art work, pictures, children doodle placed on the walls add depth and colors to your living room. Keep it simple, one or two pieces per wall is good.

  • When using wall hangings and decorations, be sure the color is either neutral to your room or compliments the key colors you are using.

  • Lighting

  • Lighting when properly place in living room, can dramatically enhance the décor of the room. Lighting for living room should be both general and diffused. A bright harsh light won’t make for a comfortable area in which you can sit and relax. If this room is used for watching TV or entertaining guests then there is no need of reading lights, for this use recessed lights in the ceiling with a dimmer switch. But if you have a plan to read or work in your living room then use some attractive floor lamps for this purpose.

  • Candle also may add to a romantic and inviting feel in your living area. Allow as much natural light into the living room as possible. Natural light is soothing and can help you relax and unwind.

  • Plants and Flowers

  • Put some fresh flowers in the room in vases. Flowers smell great and add an extra touch in the room.

  • Spaced plants at various places throughout the living room will give a warm and welcoming feeling in the room.

  • Shelves

  • Shelves are great for placing your family photoes, or even mini-collection for display. Shelves holding books and magazines and baskets also fit well into the lodge decore style.

  • It is important to keep living room clutter free. Take out the clutter. Remove any clutter from counters, tables and chairs. Just getting rid of clutter can freshen up any room and give it a crisp feeling. No matter how small your living room, the right furniture and accessories can transfer it tastefully into a space that reflects the real you. When decorating living room, always keep the goal of the feel in the room. With some consideration and planning this will easily become your favorite room of the house.
