  • Caring for the teeth of your child is one of the first steps towards good parenthood. Take note of the following info and ensure oral health of your child:

  • Guidlines

  • 1. Your child’s first dental visit should be between the eruption of the first tooth and his or her first birthday.

  • 2. Brush your child’s teeth until he/she is around three years old and then start encouraging them to do it themselves. Supervise brushing until age 8.

  • 3. Children under age four should use a simple brushing technique, such as a small, circular brushing motion.

  • 4. Choose a toothbrush with a small brush head and soft bristles.

  • 5. Use only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste, teaches your child to rinse and spit out after brushing.

  • 6. Teach your child to rinse their toothbrush with running water after brushing.

  • 7. Flossing should start when two teeth touch and supervision is needed until at least till the age of 10.

  • 8. Change your child’s toothbrush before the bristles became splayed and frayed.

  • 9. It’s best to make your child brush their teeth soon after eating sweet things.

  • 10. Drinking water after food helps neutralize acidic saliva.

  • 11. Moderate the use of sugar and food high in sugar.

  • 12. Encourage foods that are low in fat, especially saturated and trans fats.

  • 13. Serve salt and processed foods only in moderation.

  • 14. For 4 and 24 months old, use a brush that is gentle on new teeth and tender gums. Opt for one that has a non-slip handle with a thumb rest for better control.

  • 15. For 2 to 4 years old, choose a narrow brush that fits in the child’s small mouth. It should also have handle that is easy to hold with bristles designed to clear hard to reach back teeth.

  • 16. For 5 to 7 years old, pick a toothbrush that helps kids brush at their best. Select one that has cup-shaped bristles and a tapered heat that helps kids reach their back teeth, permanent teeth and gaps. It is important for them can make for tender gums. Use a toothbrush that has combination bristles: criss cross bristles that reach between teeth and gentle flared bristles that massage gaps.
