  • What’s more, fat free products typically contain white flour and sugar, which cause unhealthy, fat triggering spikes and dips in blood sugar and insulin.

  • Since tendency with fat-free snacks is to eat as much as you want it is easy to end up eating a large number of calories and refined carbohydrates. But eating more calories than you burn, no matter whether those calories come from high-fat or non-fat foods, makes you gain weight and body fat.

  • The best way to deal with fat-free snacks is to limit them to one or two servings a week or even avoid them entirely, they are refined carbohydrates that you don’t really need.

  • To keep cravings at bay, opt for foods that will cause a gradual rise in blood sugar. Blood sugar friendly snacks include a portion of lean protein (such as a slice of chicken or turkey breast or a hard-boiled egg) or a serving of low-fat dairy foods (like half cup of cottage cheese, or chunk of low-fat cheddar).
