  • Ingredients

  • Butter 180 gm

  • Sugar 1 cup

  • All purpose flour 1.1/4 cup

  • Baking powder 1 tsp

  • Salt ¼ tsp

  • Coco powder 1 tbsp

  • Egg 1

  • Vanilla essence 1 tsp

  • Method

  • 1. Combine butter and sugar with hand mixture until creamy. Mix in vanilla essence and egg.

  • 2. In a separate bowl sift all purpose flour, baking powder and salt.

  • 3. Add gradually dry ingredients into butter mixture and mix with wooden spatula until everything comes together and forms soft dough. If you find dough hard then add a little milk. Knead to make soft dough.

  • 4. Divide dough into four sections. Add coco powder in two sections and knead gently. Keep the other two parts plain. During the procedure if the dough gets soft, keep it in fridge to make it little hard.

  • Checkerboard Pattern

  • 1. Shape one section of chocolate and plain dough roughly into a square shape of same shape. Cut off a small portion for the border from both pieces.

  • 2. Place one on top of the other and divide this into two pieces.

  • 3. Divide further each piece into two. See picture 3.

  • 4. Turn one piece over to show the opposite color. It’s now, chocolate-vanilla – vanilla -vanilla now like picture 4.

  • 5. Press the two pieces together and repeat with the other pair too. Picture 5.

  • 6. Place them on top of each other. Refrigerate for 20 minutes. The dough can be frozen for later use also.

  • 7. Repeat with the remaining two sections of dough to make log.

  • 8. Slice this log to get checker board pattern. Place slices on greased baking tray and bake in preheated oven at 180 degree for 10-15 minutes.
