  • Sindh is a historical and a beautiful province of Pakistan and one of its historical attractions is Ranikot Fort. The fort stands in Lakki Mountains of the Kirthar range at a distance of 30 km of Sann and 262 km from Karachi.

According to historical legends, it is the largest unexplored fort in the world with a circumference of about 29 km. Fort must have been a place of great strength, according to the native ideas of the art of defense, but its safety principally lies in the difficulty of access, the road lying through a parched desert, totally void of the water.

  • There are no historical facts that when its foundations lied, who were the first guest of this fort, which of the ruler first raised his flag on Ranikot. Small evidence showed a little about that the first fort of the site was built by Arabs, possibly built by a Persian Nobel under the Abbasid’s by Imran Bin Musa Barmaki, who was the governor of Sindh in 836 CE. It has been agreed by local folklore of Sindh that some of the present structure was constructed or reconstructed by two of Talpur Mirs, Mir Karam Ali Khan and Mir Murad Ali in the early 19th century.

  • There is no doubt that this fort, because of its unique location, was a place of great wonder of Sindh. Visible from five km away it’s massive undulating walls twist and dip over the hills. Most of the 20 km long wall is made of natural cliffs and barricades of mountain’s rocks which at places rise as high as two thousand feet above sea level. Only about 8.25 km area of its wall is man made, build with yellow sand stone. The walls of fort reinforced with 45 bastions  along the outer waller, of which seven are rectangular and the remaining are rounds.

  • Ranikoat Fort is surrounded by four gates. The entrance gate is Sann Gate with oval pillars, the Western gate is named Mohan, on North side is Amri Gate and Shah Pir Gate is on the South.

  • Parryen jo Tarr (the spring of fairies) is a spring flowing from an underground water source near the Mohan Gate  According to local inhabitants fairies come to this spring to take a bath on the full moon.

  • The main fort Ranikot has two more mini forts inside it, Meeri Fort and Shergarh Fort. The mini forts were built under personal supervision of  Talpur ruler Nawab Wali Muhammad Khan Laghari in the early 19th century. Talpur Mirs used Meeri Fort for their residence. The major attractions of this fort was court, harem, guest rooms, and the soldiers quarters. Its 1435 feet long wall has five bastions. The other unique structure Shergarh Fort is located 1480 feet above the sea level, is built with whitish stone has too five bastions. The steep climbs to Shergarh offers a catching eye view down over the whole fort and its entrance and exit point.

  • According to local guide as one enters the fort, one can find a mysteries world inside the fort. There are hills, valleys, ditches, fossils, streams, ponds, pools, building structure, watchtowers, bastions and fortresses to increase its beauty.

  • The best fort is for the end, so stay with me.
